Exam Content

When reviewing a research study, you must have the knowledge and skills to accurately read and interpret all parts.

This week the chair of the EPB committee has asked you to locate the report of a quantitative study and to accurately identify and describe the various sections of the report, including a visual table (evidence table). The chair also requests you to make recommendations that would make the study stronger.

Select 1 quantitative research article that addresses your chosen topic in your Week 3 assignment. (MY WK 3 – TOPIC WAS ON DIABETES/JEAN WATSON’S THEORY OF CARE).

Prepare a table in Microsoft® Word or Excel®, and complete the following:
Identify the source of the article.
Identify the issue related to Evidence-Based Practice.
Identify the type of design that is used in the study. Using?Table 9.1 (p. 328) of Nursing Research, locate the type of design described in the article.
Identify the Study Design and Study Outcome Measure(s) as noted in the article. Compare the design description in the study to the one in the table and determine if there is any difference between the two.
Describe the Study Setting.
Describe the Study Population.
Describe the Data Analysis including specific statistical tests and the reason for selecting the specific tests for the study. If there is a test of a hypothesis, what are the results of the data analysis? This may also be referred to as findings. Give as much detail as you can.
Describe the Results/Key Findings. Please refer to the outcome of the statistical tests and not only general conclusions found under discussion or conclusions.

Review the Evidence Table on the NCBI website for an example of how to complete this table.
