Assignment Objectives: Stimulate critical thinking and reflection beyond the clinical experience. Research best practices in caring for clients to improve outcomes. Incorporate evidence-based research into teaching and providing care to clients. Demonstrate teaching skills appropriate to the student’s senior level. Promote student collaboration and teamwork. Promote utilization of information technology. Participate in a peer review of student work. Tasks Student Groups will prepare a case study highlighting a particular issue that sparked their interest during the clinical rotation as it relates to a Healthy People 2030 maternal child objective. Groups will conduct a literature review on the topic of interest. This review of literature should cover a minimum of 3 articles generated from: Peer-reviewed nursing journals Electronic Evidence-Based Source Professional Website These articles should be relevant to the topic and be synthesized to enhance the understanding of the topic. Groups will create one of the following: Poster Hand out Pamphlet Brochure Include a discussion of the literature review, and a case study formulation, addressing the role of the nurse as it relates to nursing actions and interventions. The groups will also develop five critical thinking questions to be answered by their classmates. Students will use their experience in the clinical area to assist them in developing the case study. This assignment will be presented in clinical during post-conference. Each instructor will assign specific due dates for presentations. Groups will give a verbal presentation that will introduce the class to the clinical experience that sparked their interest in the issue selected, as well as a description of the case study and the relevance of the case in teaching and providing care to clients. A separate reference page using APA format is required. Grading Poster/ Handout Submission (60%): Case Studies and References must be handed in to the clinical instructor. A digital copy will be uploaded to the Canvas submission folder. Review of literature (15%) Review contains at least 3 articles from peer-reviewed nursing journals. Review of literature contains a summary of articles and synthesis of material. References and citations are current, pertinent, and representative of the issue (within the last 10 years) Sources are primary, not secondary or anecdotal. Case Study Formulation (10%) Introduces patient and problem/pathophysiology The role of the nurse as it relates to nursing actions and interventions Critical Thinking Questions- 5 well-developed questions (20%) at least one question related to client teaching and one related to discharge planning at least one question related to tailoring care to the client Clear and appropriate open-ended questions Handout (15%) Appropriate for presentation creativity APA Style format for references and citations Verbal Presentation (40%): Graded individually by Rubric Orient the class to clinical experience that sparked interest in the case selected and provide an overview of the case study (roughly 5-8 minutes). Includes the distribution of 5 critical thinking questions to groups of students, who will be given a brief amount of time to explore options and responses. Reviews peer answers and rationales with the class. Presented appropriately and professionally.
