Assignment Task

Background

  • This assessment item will give students the opportunity to critically analyse a public Oration delivered by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
  • Why do we do it?
  • Public Orations and texd talks are now widely available online and are a way which many people engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues.
  • This assessment helps you develop your skills to analyse audiovisual materials. This is your opportunity to say what you think. It is your opinion, and does not need to be referenced.
  • It is also often harder to reflect on our own work but easier to see the strengths and weaknesses of another person’s work. By critically analysing an Oration you can reflect on how to improve your own presentations for the future.

Summury checklist

  • Do you have a brief introduction and conclusion?
  • Have you described the context of the Oration and the suggestions made by the presenter.
  • Are your paragraphs a good length- e.g. Not too short or long?
  • Have you considered strength an weaknesses
  • Did you proof-read the paper?
  • Does the paper meet the word count?
